Right now, look around your home and picture it without you. If something happened to you or your spouse1, is your family in a position to maintain their current lifestyle? Sure, you try to put away a little money for a rainy day. But it's tough. The dollar just isn't what it used to be and your family needs money to survive.

Fortunately, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) has a solution with the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) "2-in-1" Joint Term Life Insurance Plan.

What is the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) "2-in-1" Plan and how does it work?

The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) "2-in-1" Plan is a Joint Group Term Life Insurance Plan. You and your spouse1 are both insured for the same benefit amount it just means it pays the benefit you select on whoever dies first you or your spouse1.

Your family's joint term insurance ends at that point. Of course, remaining family members can continue their Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Life coverage under Military Officers Association of America's (MOAA's) Leader Group Term Life Plan after the death of you or your spouse1. The remaining spouse1 just needs to notify the Plan Administrator of this change within 31 days.

Plus, this program includes an important feature that doubles your benefits if you and your spouse1 die within 31 days of each other. For example, if you choose the $100,000 plan, your beneficiary collects $200,000 ($100,000 for each life).

Why the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) "2-in-1" Plan could be better for my family than other life insurance plans available today?

The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) "2-in-1" Plan is not like many other life plans. Many life plans today make you buy separate coverage for you and your spouse1 which may cost you twice as much. With the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) "2-in-1" Plan, you get coverage for both you and your spouse1 in one plan.

The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) "2-in-1" Plan may cost less than the price of two separate plans. Plus, the Plan was custom-designed for Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) members and offers benefits you may not find anywhere else.

Will it help protect my family even if I'm on active duty or in the reserves?

Yes. Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) made sure of that. Unlike many plans on the market, even some from other military associations, the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) "2-in-1" Plan does not have exclusions for war or flying in a military aircraft. You're covered no matter what ... 24 hours a day ... active duty, retired or in the reserves. As a matter of fact, the only exclusion is suicide within the first two years of coverage or increase in coverage.

How much insurance can my spouse1 and I get?

Benefit amounts from $50,000 to $350,000 are available. The age of the older spouse1 determines the maximum benefit amount available to you and your spouse1.

Age Maximum benefit available
Under Age 55 $350,000
55-59 $200,000
60-64 $150,000
65-69 $75,000

  • Additional Plan Details

How soon will our Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) "2-in-1" Plan begin?
Once your application is approved by the insurer, your insurance will start on the first of the month following the approval date of your application and the receipt of your first premium payment.

Are there other valuable benefits and services?

Yes. There are variety of benefits and services available under this plan.

    • You can tap into your benefits before you die if you or your spouse1 becomes Terminally Ill. If your doctor certifies that you have less than twelve months to live, you can collect up to 50% of your life insurance benefits before you die. You may use this money however you want. Receipt of the accelerated benefit may be taxable, or may adversely affect your eligibility for Medicaid or other government benefits. You should consult your personal tax advisor to assess the impact of this benefit.
    • Travel Assistance Service.2 What if you or your spouse1 is traveling (more than 100 miles from your home — even abroad) and you're in an accident, lose your passport or need other assistance? This program can provide pre-trip information and can help you deal with potential problems you may have while traveling at no additional cost to you. Think of it as your own personal travel assistance team on-call 24 hours a day, every day, from anywhere you might be that's away from home.
    • Bereavement Support, including Funeral Planning and Will Preparation.3 In the event of an insured’s death, these services, provided at no additional cost to you, gives you and your family access to bereavement support, funeral planning assistance and will preparation services, including health care directives, that can be used to research and document decisions and wishes.

    Who will collect benefits?
If you die first, your spouse1 will automatically collect all the benefits. If your spouse1 dies first, then you collect the benefits. If you wish to designate a different beneficiary, please contact the plan administrator.

Can our coverage be canceled if either of us gets sick?

No. Your coverage continues as long as:

    • You remain a Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Member.
    • You pay your premiums when due.
    • You and your spouse1 are living and are under age 70.
    • The Group Policy remains in force.
    • You remain married.

Your children's coverage will continue to age 21 (25 for full-time students) as long as you keep your Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) insurance in force.

Will we have to pay premiums if one of us becomes disabled?

FAQs

Answers about the program, including eligibility, options, customer service and more.

  • Who is eligible for this insurance?

Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) members and spouses1 under age 70 are eligible to apply.

You and your spouse1 are both insured for the same benefit amount; it just means it pays the benefit you select on whoever dies first: you or your spouse.1

Your children ages 15 days to under 6 months are eligible for $1,000 in coverage. Your children ages 6 months to 21 years (or 25 if enrolled in an institution of higher learning) are eligible for $10,000 in coverage.

  • How much life insurance would I need?

If you have dependents, buy enough life insurance so that, when combined with other sources of income, it will help replace the income you now generate for them, plus enough to help offset any additional expenses they will incur to replace services you provide. Also, your family might need extra money to make some changes after you die. For example, they may want to relocate, or your spouse1 may need to go back to school to be in a better position to help support the family.
  • Do I have to meet with an insurance agent?

You can apply for this insurance over the Internet and the mail. You can review the materials in the privacy of your home and once your application is approved by the insurer, purchase your Insurance directly through the mail without meeting with an agent. You can, of course, talk to a customer service representative if you’d like by calling 1-800-247-2192.

  • How do I apply?

To apply online click on the “Get a Quote Now!” button. Or, you can choose to download an application.
  • Are non-tobacco rates available?

If you haven’t used any tobacco products in the last 12 months, you qualify for rates even lower than the regular group rates.
  • What if I have second thoughts after I apply?

You will have 30 days from the date coverage is effective to review the insurance certificate. If you are not satisfied with the terms of the certificate, simply return it to the Insurance Administrator and any premiums paid will be refunded in full, provided no claims have been submitted or paid.
