Answers about the program, including eligibility, options, customer service and more.

  • When does the coverage end?

You can keep your MOAA Active Service Discharge Group Term Life Insurance coverage for as long as you want no matter what your health as long as you remain a member of MOAA, pay your premiums on time and the Group Policy stays in force.

Your spouse1 can keep his or her coverage for as long as their premiums are paid on time, the Group Policy stays in force, and they are not legally separated or divorced from you.

Coverage reduces to $80,000 on your 70th birthday if you have more than $80,000 of coverage. At age 80, your coverage reduces to an $11,000 benefit.

  • Who is eligible for this insurance?

MOAA members enrolling within 270 days after discharge from active uniformed service (provided your discharge is not health or disability related) are guaranteed acceptance. For Spouse1 coverage, the member must be covered in order for the spouse1 to obtain coverage. Spouse1 amount is limited to 50% of Member amount, not to exceed the maximum coverage available based on spouse’s1 age.
  • How much life insurance would I need?

Everyone’s needs are different. However, underinsuring can have a major impact on our families, whether we have small children, almost-grown children or a spouse1 to consider. Life insurance can help replace lost income if you’re employed; the loss of your financial expertise even if you’re not. A lump sum benefit payment gives your family “replacement income” to help pay present living expenses (mortgage, utilities, car payments, etc.). It can also help keep the big goals alive, such as college for children or grandchildren and a secure retirement for your spouse1. Higher coverage amounts are available on a fully underwritten basis under the Group Term Life Plan.
  • Do I have to meet with an insurance agent?

You can enroll for this insurance coverage online using the 'Get a Quote Now' Button, or you can print and send through the mail using the 'Enrollment Form' Button, both links are located on the right side bar. This allows you to review the materials in the privacy of your home. You can, of course, talk to a customer service representative if you’d like by calling 1-800-247-2192. 7:30 am to 7 pm Monday-Friday (Central).
  • When is the coverage effective?

Your Active Service Discharge coverage will start on the first day of the month after your enrollment form has been processed and your first premium has been paid. If you send a check with your enrollment form, your coverage will begin on the first day of the month after your enrollment form is processed.
  • What if I have second thoughts after I enroll?

You will have 30 days from the date coverage is effective to review the insurance certificate. If you are not satisfied with the terms of the certificate, simply return it to the Insurance Administrator and any premiums paid will be refunded in full, provided no claims have been submitted or paid.
